Getting Started
What is Personent?
Personent lets you create AI-powered assistants and connect them to WhatsApp or Telegram — no coding required. Each assistant has its own personality, knowledge base, and messaging channel. You can be up and running in under five minutes.
Creating Your Account
Sign up with your Google account or email address at personent.ai/signup. Every new account starts on the Free plan with 1 assistant and 500 messages per month.
Dashboard Overview
After signing in, you'll land on the Dashboard. From here you can:
- Assistants — Create, edit, and manage your AI assistants
- Billing — View your plan, upgrade, or manage your subscription
- Usage — Track messages, tokens, and costs per assistant
- Settings — Update your profile and account preferences
Creating Assistants
Choosing a Template
When you create a new assistant, you'll pick from one of our pre-built templates — each with a unique personality and purpose:
- Luna — A friendly customer support agent. Handles FAQs, return policies, and knows when to escalate to a human.
- Max — A personal productivity sidekick. Helps with reminders, scheduling, daily briefings, and staying organized.
- Aria — A social media content creator. Drafts posts, suggests ideas, and helps manage content calendars.
- Custom — A blank canvas. Define your own personality, behaviors, and tools from scratch.
Customizing Personality
Every assistant has a personality that defines how it behaves, responds, and interacts. After choosing a template, you can customize:
- Name & emoji — Give your assistant a unique identity
- Description — A short bio that describes what your assistant does
- Personality text — The core instructions that shape your assistant's behavior, tone, and boundaries
Model Selection
Choose the AI model that powers your assistant. The default is Claude Sonnet which offers an excellent balance of speed and intelligence. Higher-tier plans unlock more model options.
Sleep & Wake Behavior
To keep costs low, assistants "sleep" after a period of inactivity. When a new message arrives, the assistant wakes up automatically. Sleep timeouts depend on your plan:
- Free — 5 minutes (slightly slower wake time)
- Starter — 10 minutes
- Pro & Enterprise — Always on (no cold starts)
Connecting Channels
Telegram
Connecting your assistant to Telegram takes about 2 minutes:
- Open Telegram and search for @BotFather
- Send
/newbotand follow the prompts to name your bot - BotFather will give you a bot token — copy it
- In your Personent dashboard, go to your assistant's Channels tab
- Click Connect Telegram and paste the token
- Your assistant is now live on Telegram! Send it a test message.
WhatsApp integration lets your assistant communicate via your WhatsApp account:
- In your dashboard, go to Channels and click Connect WhatsApp
- A QR code will appear on screen
- Open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Settings → Linked Devices
- Scan the QR code with your phone
- Once connected, your assistant will respond to messages
Channel Status
Each channel shows a status indicator in the dashboard:
- Connected — The channel is active and receiving messages
- Pending — The channel is being set up
- Error — Something went wrong. Check the token or reconnect.
Knowledge Base
Uploading Files
Give your assistant specialized knowledge by uploading documents. Navigate to your assistant's Knowledge tab and drag-and-drop files or click to browse.
Supported File Types
- PDF — Product manuals, guides, reports
- TXT — Plain text documents, FAQs
- Markdown (.md) — Formatted documentation
- CSV — Structured data, product catalogs, pricing tables
Maximum file size is 10 MB per file. Files are securely stored and only accessible to your assistant.
How It Works
Uploaded files are placed in your assistant's workspace. When a user asks a question, the assistant can search through these files to find relevant information and include it in its responses. This makes your assistant an expert on your specific content.

Upgrading & Downgrading
You can change your plan at any time from the Billing page in your dashboard. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
Usage Tracking
The Usage page shows your current month's consumption:
- Total messages sent and received
- Token usage (input and output) per assistant
- Estimated cost breakdown
- Per-assistant usage breakdown
You'll see warnings when you approach your plan limits (at 80% and 100% usage).
FAQ
Do I need to bring my own API key?
No. Personent provides all the AI infrastructure. Your subscription includes access to Claude, and all API calls are handled automatically through our platform.
Can I use my assistant on multiple channels?
Yes! Each assistant can be connected to both WhatsApp and Telegram simultaneously. The assistant maintains context across channels.
What happens if I hit my message limit?
Your assistant will stop responding to new messages until the next billing period starts. You can upgrade your plan at any time to get more messages immediately.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Each assistant runs in its own isolated sandbox environment. Your files, conversations, and configuration are not shared with other users. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There are no long-term contracts. Cancel from the Billing page and your subscription will end at the close of the current billing period. You can continue to use Personent on the Free plan.
